Deleting Your Account

Last updated: October 11, 2026

The short version: You can delete your Sorted account and its data yourself, right inside the app - no request or waiting period. Open the app, go to the Profile screen, scroll to Delete account, and confirm. Your account and personal data are removed permanently. If you can no longer sign in, email us and we will delete it for you. This page explains exactly what gets deleted.

1. How to delete your account

Sorted has a built-in, self-serve deletion path. To remove your account and its data:

  • Open the Sorted app and make sure you are signed in.
  • Go to the Profile screen.
  • Scroll down to Delete account.
  • Tap it, then confirm in the dialog that appears.

Deletion happens right away and cannot be undone. There is nothing else you need to do - no separate request, form, or waiting period. We send one goodbye email to the address on the account to confirm it is done.

2. If you cannot sign in

If you have lost access to your account, email support@skylontech.ca from the email address on the account and ask us to delete it. We will run the same deletion described on this page and reply when it is done. If you write from a different address, we will ask you to confirm from the account address, or to answer a question only the account owner would know, before we act. We respond within 30 days, usually much sooner.

3. What gets deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes:

  • Your profile, including your name, profile photo, time zone and settings.
  • Your account login and sign-in credentials.
  • Lists you own on your own, along with all of their items.
  • Your buying history and Insights - purchases, item statistics, “Running low” state, and category corrections.
  • Your recipe favourites and your membership of any shopping trips.
  • Your saved contacts, and your details - name, email, and photo - in other people’s contacts.
  • Any pending invitations you have sent or received.
  • Your muted-list settings and push-notification tokens.
  • Your Premium records: the link between your account and the store purchase, any Premium shares you gave or received, and the notices we sent about your subscription.
  • Feedback reports you sent from the app.
  • Our record of which Terms and Privacy Policy version you accepted.

This data is removed from our systems and cannot be recovered afterwards.

4. What happens to lists you share

Lists you created and share with other people are not destroyed when you leave, so your collaborators keep their data:

  • A shared list you own is handed to the member who has been on it longest, and you are removed from it.
  • A list you own with no other members is deleted along with your account.
  • A list you only joined is simply left - you are removed and it stays with its owner.
  • Items you checked off on a list that other people remain members of stay in their buying history, without your name attached.

5. If you have a Premium subscription

Deleting your Sorted account does not cancel a subscription bought through Google Play or the Apple App Store. Cancel it in your Google Play or Apple ID subscription settings, otherwise the store will keep charging you. Deletion releases the purchase from your old account, so if you ever create a new Sorted account you can restore an active subscription to it.

6. What remains, and for how long

  • Backups. Database backups are kept for seven days, after which deleted data is gone from backups too.
  • Email records. A record of each email we sent you is kept for 30 days; records of subscription notices for up to 13 months so none is ever sent twice.
  • Support email. Emails you exchanged with support, including feedback forwarded to our inbox and any deletion request you emailed us, are kept for up to 12 months.
  • Legal. We may keep a minimal set of records where the law requires it, for example security logs, on our standard retention schedule.

For full details on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
